Apple’s Pinch to Zoom Patent Temporarily Invalid

Today, the United States Patent and Trademark Office has rejected another one of Apple’s patents, this one being the “pinch to zoom” patent (7,844,915).  Legally speaking, it is a patent that covers a programming interface that can determine whether one finger is scrolling or a different number of fingers perform another action. In English, it is a patent that determines whether or not one finger is moving on the screen or multiple fingers are moving on the screen.

This, along with the bounce-back patent being temporarily invalidated, may cause some ripples in the Samsung v. Apple trial, but because nothing is necessarily concrete, I wouldn’t be holding my breath.
